Description: Get ready for the annual “Redneck Thanksgiving” event!

This started as a family event many years ago and I’d like to invite all club members to join us this year. We head out to an area near 5-mile Pass and spend the morning eating donuts, drinking hot cocoa, shoot rifles, handguns, and shotguns.

The tradition is to bring something “fun” to shoot at — we’ve shot computers, laptops, monitors, and other fun things. Please, nothing that will blow-up or cause unsafe conditions :)  But, feel free to bring targets, etc. We will plan to meet at the church parking lot at 6:50 a.m.  I will distribute maps and we can hit the road by 7.  Also, plan to carpool where possible!

Does anybody have a clay-target thrower they can bring? I have a few boxes of clay targets and will bring those. I’m also going to bring some old computer parts (like a CD-ROM drive and monitor) for target practice. So… get creative and let me know if you have any questions.

Ok, this time its for real folks! The tentative date is Thursday, March 26th. If we have enough interest we can likely get an instructor to come to us and we can hold the class in somebody’s home.

If you have interest in attending please let me know or comment on this post. I will also send an email blast to everybody and see who would like to attend.

Thanks to those who were able to join us for a quick Saturday afternoon shoot at “the Grotto” — Weather was beautiful (for February) and it was good to get some fresh air and get in some practice time.  Thanks to Matt who made it later on and brought some really fun guns — The Judge, 44 Mag, AR, etc.!  Those were very fun.  We also got to shoot Troy’s Criss Super-V which is very cool too!

Well, this post is a little late but I figured I better get some info out about our fun outing on Thanksgiving morning.

The morning started out very rainy and we just about canceled at the departure rendezvous point. However, we decided since we were up and ready to go that we’d give it a try. Thankfully, by the time we reached west-Lehi we were out of the rain. And, by the time we arrived at the shooting location the clouds had actually begun to break-up. We enjoy the most mild weather we’ve had on the Thanksgiving shootout!

Our destination was an area near Five-Mile-Pass. We arrived there at about 8 a.m. and had a good time for several hours as we practiced with handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Thanks to Dave for letting us borrow his awesome thrower! And, thanks to Mark who kept us warm with lots of hot chocolate from the Cocoa-motion (mobile edition)! It was also fun to have some extended family from Virginia join us.

We took some portable banquet tables this year which worked really well; we’ll have to remember that for next year. Another big hit were some of the various computer parts we used as targets!

Redneck Thanksgiving 2008

I wanted to follow-up on our outing/visit to the PG Sportsmen club a few months ago… We shot at their range (located on 6th E Center St, PG).  They were very friendly and welcomed us to shoot.  They prefer that people join the club and pay their dues to pay for the cost of the facility and the amenities they provide.  I’ve attached a PDF with their membership form.  If any of you feel so inclined we invite you to join their group and enjoy using their facilities — a nice, short trip and a great way to get some range-time in during the winter!

A few of us went up to the “Grotto” on the hill Saturday and took advantage of the beautiful weather. Perhaps the last warm Saturday before winter and it made for a great afternoon. I had some family visiting from Virginia and so we had them go with us; Ron, my brother-in-law and tow of his boys, Nathan & Spencer, helped us burn some ammo and knock down some clay targets. Also, after we shot for a bit, Mark and Denise, taking the new Rhino for a spin, joined us a bit later. Denise amazed us with her dead-eye while shooting the high-powered Moisen-Nagent Russian WWII rifle! Way to go Denise!
