Targets and supplies (tape, clay targets, etc.)
Ammo

If you don’t have any guns and would like to attend that is great!; we ask that you bring your own ammo (coordinate with others that are attending to know what ammo to bring, etc. — or, you might also consider donating some cash to the gun owners so they can purchase the ammo they prefer to use in their firearms).

Safety

We want this to be a safe and fun outing for everyone.  With a large group of people in attendance it’s even more important to be extra cautious.  An definitive firing-line will be established and specific announcements will be made when the range is open and closed. Also,  please review gun safety rules with everyone in your party and pay particular attention to younger children.  Please, no loaded fire-arms should be handled behind the firing line and muzzles should be directed down-range or in a safe direction at all times.  Thanks!

Directions

Here is a map to the location — allow about 45 minutes drive time from Lehi Roller Mills just off I-15. The new Pioneer Crossing expressway is now open and may be a better route (proceed one exit South of Lehi Roller Mill exit).

Inclement Weather

Temperature’s are always cold for this event but we usually don’t cancel the outing unless there is significant rain or snow that morning.

Post Outing Report

Thank you to all those who attended the Thanksgiving outing this year!  We had a great turnout — I counted about 44 people in attendance.  I’d still love to know the total cost of all the ammo we burned through!  Highlights this year included Dave’s 50-cal Barrett sniper rifle (tripod mounted and everything!), some exploding targets, and the highly competitive Annie Oakley competition with the shotguns.  Included is a link to some pictures and we look forward to seeing you all next year!

Shootout Update

All — due to the extremely cold temperatures the shootout has been postponed until Saturday, November 27th.  Same time; we plan to start shooting at around 8 a.m.  Look forward to seeing you all there!

What I’m Thankful For

Well… another year has flown by and it’s that season when we reflect on the many things we’re thankful for. I’m especially thankful for family, and friends, and all the freedoms we enjoy in this great country. One freedom I’m thankful for is the right to bear arms. So, in celebration of that particular constitutional right we upholding our long-standing tradition of the Thanksgiving Shootout!

History

A little history on this event may be in order… as a kid I remember getting together on Thanksgiving weekend with my uncle, my cousins, my dad and brother. We’d take guns and either go target shooting or perhaps rabbit hunting. It was always a great time to reconnect with relatives, enjoy the outdoors, and also shoot others’ guns that were fun an unique. One year stands out when I was able to shoot some vintage Russian WWII guns that belong to my Uncle Tom who is a former Green Beret.

Since that time it became a pseudo family tradition that we would go shooting on Thanksgiving day. As the years past, sometimes the usual suspects couldn’t attend so invitations were extended to other friends, etc. From that time the event has grown and grown… last year, 2009, the even was incredible; there were over 30 attendees, more donuts and hot chocolate than we could consume, an arsenal of weapons (handguns, rifles, carbines, AR’s, shotguns, large-caliber weapons, etc.), and several people even camped-out the night before. In the end we estimate several thousand dollars-worth of ammo was spent and many sore shoulders and blistered trigger fingers were the result… what a great time!

Thanksgiving shootout pictures

I just realized I never did get the pictures from the big event posted. It really was great fun and we had over 30 people attend! I think we probably burned through thousands of dollars of ammo, targets, and donuts! A few of us die-hards even camped-out the night before. Thank you to all of you who were so generous and shared their guns with others — it’s a lot of fun to try out so many different firearms.

Here are the few pictures I took… Anybody else have any pictures they can post?

Redneck Thanksgiving 2009

Title: Redneck Thanksgiving 2009
Location: Five Mile Pass
Description: Get ready for the annual “Redneck Thanksgiving” event!

This started as a family event many years ago and I’d like to invite all club members to join us this year. We head out to an area near 5-mile Pass and spend the morning eating donuts, drinking hot cocoa, shoot rifles, handguns, and shotguns.

The tradition is to bring something “fun” to shoot at — we’ve shot computers, laptops, monitors, and other fun things. Please, nothing that will blow-up or cause unsafe conditions :)  But, feel free to bring targets, etc. We will plan to meet at the church parking lot at 6:50 a.m.  I will distribute maps and we can hit the road by 7.  Also, plan to carpool where possible!

Does anybody have a clay-target thrower they can bring? I have a few boxes of clay targets and will bring those. I’m also going to bring some old computer parts (like a CD-ROM drive and monitor) for target practice. So… get creative and let me know if you have any questions.
Get your guns ready to go!

Here is a driving map from Cedar Hills to the destination.

Start Time: 6:45
